#12 Outdoor Concert

Another event that the Sea Festival includes is the Long Beach Municipal Band Concert Series.

They offer concerts every week throughout the summer in various parks. The one I chose to go to was "Broadway Night" ... for obvious reasons. This concert was held in Marine Stadium, just a few minutes away from my apartment. We got there just in time for the National Anthem, which precedes each concert. The band was set up on stage in the middle of the parking lot!

The park was packed with people, and again it was like a picnic. Everyone around us had chairs, blankets, food and drinks. Some people just to the left of us had a mini table, with bottles of wine and glasses and fruit and cheese.
That's the way to go to one of these concerts! I know better for next time now :-)

The concert lasted about 40 minutes and included a Gershwin medley, a Dance Sequence medley and Stars and
Stripes Forever as the big finish. The sound went out at one point, which reminded us of outdoor Broadway concerts
in New York, because they always has technical difficulties. The band was great, and the conductor gave some
Broadway history before each number. It was very cool, and I definitely have to go to more of these - especially
since next year is the 100th Anniversary of the Municipal Band!
