#4 Long Beach East Village Art Walk

One of the things that was important to me to include in my 30 Things was exploring Long Beach. My little town (which is the 5th largest city in California, FYI) has so much to offer, and most people don't give it the credit it deserves. So - be prepared to learn some fun things about Long Beach over the next few months.

Every month on the second Saturday of the month, Long Beach sponsors the East Village Art Walk. I really wanted to go to one of these because I love art, especially an opportunity to see local art, and because it's free. I love free.

It takes place in a four-block area of downtown Long Beach. There are about 30 booths set up with various local
artists and artisans displaying their works. There was live music (a singer with good lyrics, but a not so great voice);
the worst performance artist of all time (pretending to be a "magician" with backup "dancers"); and many local galleries
with wine, cheese and open doors.
We also found the artist who painted the works hanging in the Coffee Cup Cafe! Very cool. His stuff is amazing - even better close up.

One of my favorite booths was one where the artist was painting live.

Here is my favorite painting from the day. No surprise to anyone, it's blue.

It was a short but fabulous experience. I discovered a few new artists and galleries, and I got to see one of the
hidden jewels in my hidden jewel of a city.
